From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
